Do all of the dorms have elevators/disability access? Are there any that wouldn’t work for someone that has a condition that they can’t climb stairs or steep hills?
I’d believe they’d have to be to be ADA compliant.
I’m pretty sure that the Red Bricks and North Mountain do not have elevators. First floor rooms would likely be accessible for someone who could walk up a couple of stairs, but I don’t think for a wheelchair. I don’t know about the Towers. Cerro Vista and Poly Canyon Village do have elevators. It would be best to contact the Housing Office to ask and also go on a housing tour, if possible.
Read the following link regarding housing accommodations if you believe you may need accommodations (whether location or floor level or specific type of housing) http://www.housing.calpoly.edu/content/living-campus
My son was at North Mountain (Lassen) in a first floor (street level) room.
@MLM Thanks for the link! We are touring next week to confirm she is going there. I guess we will have to do a formal request for a specific room type. I was kind of hoping not to have to get a disability plan, but we probably will. She has had a 504 throughout high school. She doesn’t have a wheelchair and can handle a few steps. She has an autonomic response problem where her heart/bp don’t respond right to exertion and she passes out and falls down the stairs.
Sounds like an accommodation would be necessary. Here’s a link to North Mountain Dorms - you can see how the first floor doors open right to the outside…no steps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CCe96BxU7w
