Hello everyone,
I am a current undergraduate student at a single-sex institution seeking to transfer to Oberlin because I have realized I am transgender. I have heard very good things about Oberlin’s inclusivity in regards to its LGBT population. Do any of you have personal experiences pertaining to that?
Also, what about its disability services? I have several learning disabilities and have used 504 accommodations for years, and it wasn’t hard for me to transfer them to my first college. Any input would be great.
My daughter goes to Oberlin and she said they are very strong on both issues. She has trans, gender queer, gay and lesbians in her dorm and all are treated with respect and like any other student. My daughter advocated for an accommodation due to her anxiety and it was granted and she did not have any accommodations in high school. I think you would have no problem fitting in.
Oberlin is the most tolerant college in America bar none. It was a key stop on the Underground Railroad during the civil war. It was the first college to admit women. Today it remains proud of its past heritage and continued inclusivity
