I am planning on applying to the hotel school and am considering applying to CAS as my alternate. If I use the alternate option will it make me seem like I'm not passionate about the hotel school?

nope there is no disadvantage/advantage for primary/alternate option.. it says on cornell website and only way you are going to get accepted to alternate is if your essay shows passion for your alternate choice.. if you get accepted to primary, then your essay does not even reach the alternate choice.. i want to apply but i'm too lazy to write two essays..
btw, what do you have in mind to write about the CAS essay? cuz i'm a bit lost..

The biggest disadvantage of applying with the primary/alternate decision option is that you will get into your alternate and it's not what you want. You shouldn't think of it as a "back door" to admission. Consider post #38 on this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/435869-congrats-ed-current-cornellian-ask-questions-3.html

idk i remember reading (on this site) that a hotel admissions staff say to a kid dont do alternate with hotel because you cant really get the same major anywhere else and it looks like your desperately trying to get into cornell without having your major in mind...

i wouldnt do primary alternate unless the majors are somewhat similar

I was planning on writing about economics for the CAS essay. However, that last post makes it seem like I should opt against an alternate... I realllllly want to be admitted to the Hotel School
