Disbursement of Financial Aid at Georgetown

Could anyone speak from experience about a few things involved with freshmen financial aid like when it’s disbursed, if and how you got a refund, how much it was, what you could use it for and how, etc? I really would appreciate a thorough overview since I don’t have too much to worry about other than getting there and getting supplies. I really want to come there prepared and with everything I needed as opposed to waiting all the way until late August when we start to get things like a laptop, for example especially if my package ends up not supporting me like I expect. Thanks!

You should already know what your financial aid package is for next year by checking on MyAccess. If you do get a refund, it’ll usually be processed within the first month of the school year, and they’ll ask you to set up direct deposit so they can deposit into your bank account. GU financial aid will go towards tuition, room/board, and what they expect you to spend throughout the year on (ex: travel to/from home, textbooks, etc.). There’s also a possibility that the financial aid office will give a scholarship to help pay for your health insurance, but you’d have to email them to ask whether you’re eligible towards the end of summer.

Does Georgetown generally take this long to get financial aid awarded to continuing students for the next year? It seems like this would have been done before the end of the year. We’ve already received a bill due at the end of July but we don’t even know what we need to pay.
