How much would a disciplinary record affect a student’s chances of admission as a first semester student? Assuming the infraction was very very serious and I am not in good standing with the college. I am applying to Indiana, georgetown, usc, and wakeforest what are my chances and how could I improve my chances. I currently attend a 4 year public college in the north east and i have a 3.6 gpa and am going into my second semester. I would appreciate any advice.
If it has anything to do with academic dishonesty and plagiarism, it’s going to have an impact. Schools don’t really jump for joy at the sight of any serious infraction because they don’t want that kind of business at their school and they think you’ll do it again. Also, Some transfer requirements include being in good standing with your current college.
The 3.6 GPA by itself is ok. I would say with a 3.6 and a serious disciplinary infraction, USC, Wake Forest, and Georgetown are all reaches.
It had to do with conduct dishonesty that put me in bad standing. Is there any way that I could lessen the infraction.
Also how would I address this question in the common application?
Universities typically expect that transfer students are in good standing at their previous universities. If you are not in good standing, you would want to investigate these other universities’ transfer policies before you apply. They would want proof before you are allowed to register for classes there. You may have to attend a college with open enrollment – this might be a community college. Universities often expect documentation that you are eligible to re-enroll in your current university. Georgetown expects a “Dean’s report.”
I agree with the above poster. Check with the schools you are interested in for their transfer policies. Some do require that you be in good standing.
Conduct issues don’t go over too well either. Again, it just has to do with the type of student a school is looking for. If they see you as a bomb ready to explode, it won’t end well.
