Hi,
I will be a high school senior next year, and I'm worried that ending my participation in youth orchestra (after being in it for several years) might hurt the extracurricular aspect of my college applications. I need to stop doing orchestra so that I can attend mandatory sports practice that conflicts with rehearsal.
Any thoughts on whether this could significantly hurt me? Might this come across as lack of dedication? Or does it depend too much on where I apply, the rest of my application, etc?
Thanks!
It won’t come across as lack of dedication. You’ll be fine. Do you actually want to quit orchestra though for the sport? Is the sport more important to you?
Yes to both of those questions. I suppose it would be possible to do both, but then I would be spreading myself pretty thin and exhausting myself when, yes, the sport is the priority. Thank you for responding!
OK then don’t worry about discontinuing the orchestra. If anybody asks you (admissions rep, GC, potential interviewer etc.) you can just say you wanted to prioritize the sport more. It’s not a big deal. People drop EC’s all the time senior year to make room for other things.
