My D was told that NYU students can use their IDs to buy tickets for a bunch of stuff (Broadway shows, etc.) at a discount through a ticket service run by NYU.

Can anyone tell us more about this?

i believe it is their ticket central. I believe parents have the ability as well to get discounted tickets.

NYU > Ticket Central

yeah! one of the great perks about nyu. I am starting in the fall, but many of my friends who attend there have said that you save SO much money on the theater, sports games, things at the garden, etc. NYU's a fortune so it's the least they can do! haha

While Ticket Central does indeed have some discounts for various events in the city for NYU students, it isn't always the best way to get the tickets you desire. Be aware that it is not blanket availability to all shows and all performances. For theatre, in particular, the discounted tickets may be available for one performance and there will be a limited number of tickets available (usually in the rear mezz). There are many ways to get discounted tickets in the city and other sources almost always offer better availability, better seats, and comparable prices. It's not as great a perq as many believe! :)

Do you get tickets on Knicks games?

when do we get our NYU ID card?

Incoming students get their cards after they arrive on campus on August 24, I believe.

You can get your ID card anytime this summer. Just go to the office and give them another state ID card.

which office?

I called to ask this question today and the best thing to do is to call the Card Center at 212-443-CARD to make sure that you are in the system, as you have to be verified before you can go to the Card Center at 7 East 12th Street and get your card. I phoned and the very congenial gentleman who answered said that he doubted any incoming freshmen (fall 2008) were in the system already, as it usually takes until the middle of July. However, he checked my kid's NYU ID# and lo and behold, she was there, so we are going over when we are in New York this summer to get her card made. It's one less thing to do during orientation week, when you guys will have plenty to do. We don't live in New York, so my D won't be using the ID to get discounts on any shows, etc. this summer. But it's nice to know that is available when she gets to college in the fall.

yeah you should do that because I'm an incoming freshman and went in like two days ago to get my ID and all i need to show was my drivers license or passport.

Also different schools give out discounted tickets to events on their own. So check with your own schools student life office.

alright thanks for the help!
