Apparently on the site they only give out 10 scholarships of $30,000 each, which would be rather prestigious. However, I've heard from other sources that they also give a bunch of state awards too, like $3000 each or so.
Can anyone confirm how many scholarships are given out (as well as the general amount of people who apply, make it to semifinal, etc)? Maybe it's changed for this year?

Thanks.

sorry i can't answer your question, i thought it was 10. but to add on.
i got an email saying im a semi finalist... but looking at the previous winners i dont think i stand a chance (my dad didn't die, i dont have cancer. etc). anyways im thinking about not following up cause its too much of a hassle. (recs, essays etc) should i go for it?? i only wrote about how i started a club, volunteer tutor poor kids, my moms a little sick, and other volunteer stuff (some stretchers). seems like nothing compared to other people. if its only 10 people, than i rather give it up to people who did have these tragic things happened to them. is it easy to be a semi finalist? if not then ill go for it. xp

From what I understand, getting to the semifinalist stage is not hard, but it seems unlikely that they would only offer 10 scholarships for the whole nation: then you'd pretty much have to have cancer or be a multiple amputee or something to get one. I'm just wondering if there are state awards along with the 10 national ones..

If I were you I'd just follow up, I mean at this point you can't really decrease/increase your chances significantly. How hard is it to get a good rec? I didn't know we had more essays to write...

i looked in a college scholarship book and it states at the discover one "$2500-$25000" so you are probably right w/ the state awards stuff or mabye they did change it. if you read the site, it says since 1991 $14 million given out. thats rounded up to 18 years ago. 10 students each = 180 not equal to the 6k students they say.. then, 30k each not equal to $14 mil. lets hope your right w/ the little awards. any money is good money. ;)

Sad, didn't get any of the scholarships.. did anyone here get a state/national award?
