Hey, has anyone heard back from Wellesley about the travel grant decisions for the Discover Wellesley Weekend scheduled for October?
Hi! I applied too, and I haven’t received the decisions either. I keep refreshing my email because I think I missed it, but no luck
I contacted the college yesterday; the lady told me that the July 20th decision date on the website was actually a typo, and that decisions should be out by the end of the day today @Spicykins
@Prospective1998 Thanks for the info! I’ll keep my eyes peeled
I haven’t gotten anything yet either! Did anyone get an email today?
I haven’t received anything either. I’m sure they haven’t forgotten about us though - just give them one more day!
I havent either… I’m worried that I didn’t get it
Just got my email! ACCEPTED!!!
I just saw the email…didn’t get in @ellesea I hope you have a great time!
@Spicykins Awww I’m sorry
I still haven’t gotten mine; I wonder what’s going on. @ellesea , what state are you in?
They’ve sent them out down here (I’m in the Deep South). I didn’t get in but I wish all of you guys luck!
I’m in California. I wish you all the best of luck! Are any of you guys applying to these programs at different schools?
I’m not sure I’ll apply to more programs like this.
I live in California but have not received anything yet!
My daughter was invited/encouraged to attend but they could not offer her a travel grant. She has visited once in the winter, met an admission counselor at a college fair and we live in state. ( I am assuming grant is saved more for distance OOS travelers) I am not sure how to read this as they say the will have 300 students coming that weekend. Do they stay with 300 Wellesley student volunteers? or do they just get invited for day events? Is this a positive invite or a soft no but thanks for trying? We want to be excited but not sure what this means. Anyone with more experience with these weekends, please comment Thank you so much!!!
I think my D received the same response. They were not offering a travel grant but she’s invited to attend the event. She got the invite and applied. Had not really been interested in the school beforehand but researched it and liked what she read. So I’m thinking that it’s a polite no. But if you are close by and it’s high on her list then I think it would be a great experience for her. The e mail said that there were 350 applicants and only 60 selected. So very selective process. D is still developing her list so it’s up to her if she will apply for fall.
thank you so much for your thoughts. I was excited at first but now agreeing a polite no. Do you think all the rejections for the grant said the same. I was hoping that because it said keep Wellesley on your list was encouraging, but now maybe not so much. lol!
I think I always err on the cautious side. Just getting something from a college doesn’t mean you’re a shoo in. The e mail said something to the effect of - the competition was tough and we think you’d make a good candidate so come on your own dime but we’d like you to apply because our application is free and maybe if we accept you once you apply we will have you visit on a travel grant. So encouraging but not the message of we really want you.
My S also received fly in opportunities as well as the blue book from Yale and other prestigious colleges. There was no way he was getting into Yale or some of the other ones. My D also received stuff from Dartmouth, Yale, Columbia. It’s a business. Oh, and a girl who was getting SAT’s in the 1700’s received something from Harvard. So know that colleges are a business, apply wisely, cast a wise net and go for fit over prestige. That’s our strategy for our kids.
