is anyone going from houston?

I got an invite, but I can't go because of school (missing 2 days is a big deal because of final exam exemptions and homework, etc. for me...), but I still want them to know I'm interested in the school and really glad I was invited...should I send someone an email to say this?

Jenuinex26: Kast year about 250 kids went to the Discovery Weekend, some of them were later accepted, and now, they are freshman at WUSTL.

I will be hosting a student or two for discovery weekend. Maybe someone from CC will get lucky enough to get to stay in my res house, its the newest one on campus and it is absolutely astounding....

when do we know who our host is? I know we're suppose to contact them in advance to set up a meeting time/place, but when do we actually know who they are and their contact info?

jeffwun. are you staying in liggett/koenig? Those are the ones I saw when I was at HSSP. There were amazing to say the least

manjapp, i am in liggett/koenig, i don't know if construction on liggett was done during hssp so i don't know if you saw the entire thing yet, but if you have, you can attest to how amazing it is. There are pics on my facebook page for anyone who wants to see:

My son (who is caucasian) received an invitation to this. I just tossed it aside assuming it was part of another Wash U mass mailing. I would think that the school would try to get a cross section of kids to attend, and not just URMs.

Can somebody give us an idea of what they have planned for this?
Sitting in on classes? Campus tour?
It begins and ends when?
From what I've read, it sounds as if it's meant to spark interest in WUSTL from students who haven't previously shown an interest. Is that mostly correct?

They the participants a pretty complete agenda of the weekend, including times to sit in on classes, free time, activities for students & parents, etc., didn't you read it?

We weren't invited.

Hey guys,
so apparently about 400 of you are coming to Discovery Weekend. At least that's what they told us in the email inviting us to host you guys. Don't know if that's an interesting fact or not.

I don't think Discovery Weekend is meant to spark interest in students who have yet to express an interest in WUSTL. I put it down as one of the school's from which I would like to receive information on a National Merit Scholarship form. But hey, maybe that's just me.

My daughter also listed WUSTL as one of her two schools for NMS. And she has been on their mailing list for a couple of years. She's was already interested but knew she likely wouldn't be able to visit unless she got invited to Diversity Weekend.

Not necessarily so....(unless you are talking pre-application). In the spring there's also weekends for admitted students. Some fly you up as well! It was rather nice.

Yes, talking about seeing the campus before applying, figure that's always preferred if possible :)

Have any of your hosts called/emailed you yet?

not yet.

another question, where are we supposed to meet the WashU ppl at the airport? by the carousel? or outside by the curb?

I think the student who's hosting you is supposed to call or email you and tell you where to meet them.

you're supposed to call the host...or both should make an effort to call each other. When I host students, I take the initiative and email then call my hostee because I understand some seniors might be a bit intimidated with calling. If your host hasn't contacted you, let the admissions office know and they'll get on em. What are the names of you all's host, I might know some of them. Also, if any of you all get a chance, stop by the tv station (im the business manager) I might be able to put some of yall on tv.
