Discovery Weekend at wustl

Did anyone of you go? Did they pay for the expenses and trip?
After that, did you apply to WashU? Chances of being accepted

Contact NortStarMom - her son attended in the fall.

I went this year, and they did pay all expenses. It was my second visit, and it really sealed my desire to go to Wash U. I applied ED, and got in with the full tuition+stipend Ervin Scholarship.

What is Discovery Weekend?

apparently WUSTL pays for you to go to their campus and watch the money press while it runs..........put in an order and pick up the money in August when you arrive on campus.

I went and they payed for everything except my plane ticket. I would say it is actually worth it if you make it worth it. If you want to really see the campus, go to classes, and do stuff with your host...then you'll see Wash U.

I went, and WashU covered everything...from my flights from LAX to St. Louis to even daily meals (they made sure we had LOTS to eat with their meal cards/key cards they provided us). I wonder, does anyone know how we were selected for Discovery Weekend?

So you do have to be selected? When do you find out?

I desperately want to visit WashU, but can't afford it at the moment.

I had to pay for my airline ticket. I wonder why.

Oh, I forgot to mention that they chose to sponsor the trips of select prospies.

And how did one become a "select prospie"? I haven't seen anyone answer that yet.

We're doing a campus visit and interview in three weeks, and I didn't even know there was a freebie weekend offered.

I think it may have had something to do with Nat.'l Merit/Achievement PSAT scores and prior interest. Not sure what else beyond that. No one seemed to really know, and we were never told.

i don't think it had to do with national merit because i brought that idea up to some of the pre-frosh i met during the discovery weekend and they told me they weren't national merit/achievement. many speculated it had to do with interest

yeah everything was payed for for me too. i think that had to do with the ervin scholarship adn the actual scholarship committee payed for you. i have no idea how they pick students but it could i know it comes out sometime early in the school year, so maybe look for some more info about it then.

I don't think it was interest because before Discovery Weekend, I never really cared for WashU. Everytime WashU sent me stuff in the mail, I just tossed it into my "college junk" box. The only reason I attended Discovery Weekend was because WashU was paying for all expenses (especially airfare).

I don't think it was National Merit either. I was only received a National Merit commendation award for my score of 210 on PSAT (yeah...not very high, coming from a school where 4 people got 2400s the first time collegeboard gave their new SAT in March). Yeah, it's weird that I was the only person from my school that went to Discovery Weekend, since I knew so many other people with much better scores.

it might be a combo. for me is was most certainly NOT national merit but I had been talking to some admins, faculty, and coach's for a bit. Maybe that's why I got invited.

Yeah I also think minority status is a factor. I guess it's just kids that they like?
