Discussing Intent to Prank of Application

Wondering what the admissions staff will think of me writing about my intent to participate in a non-harmful prank/hack. Any ideas? I feel it could be a bonus that they know I appreciate that sense of humor, but dangerous in that the reader may not have a sense of humor.

Also dangerous in that a sense of humor is not a major trait that one needs to show to get into a school like MIT. Why waste your essay on that subject? You missed the whole point of the essay, IMHO.

Point heard and I will consider it further.

OP, I wrote about a “hack” I pulled at my school, so I would say go for it.

For which essay were you considering talking about this though? For me, I wrote an extra essay about it and put it in the extra info section. I got in btw

Thanks for the comments Isaac,

For the 'why MIT ‘essay’. I am going for a non-traditional approach there and will be discussing my academically based reasons for wanting to be at MIT elsewhere. Are you saying you actually wrote an entire essay about the prank you pulled?

Congrats btw!

There is no “why MIT” essay.

The essays are:
Pleasure
Major/Department
Personality Trait
World you come from
Challenge

Though it would seem you could probably work it to fit personality trait or pleasure if you wanted.

There is if you’re applying as a transfer student.

Oh, my bad. :</p>

Sorry, I forgot that the transfer application had different essays. Though I have seen people think up some weird essay prompts that don’t exist before haha (just like really random ones). And I think I’m also just so used to talking/thinking about the freshman app that I just made the wrong assumption haha.

OP yeah it was an entire essay about a math related prank I pulled. However, in your case, maybe don’t spend the entire essay talking about hacking, maybe mention that it is something that you would really like about MIT, but you’d probably want more substance in your essay :)

Just a note: sense of humor IS important, especially at MIT. Don’t diminish it’s value.

@Adam5400 - No worries. I totally relate to thinking/talking so much about the transfer app that I forget there’s a freshman one. Haha indeed.

@IsaacM - Thanks again. If I put something in there it’ll just be a small blurb.

@Felicidad - Thanks!
