Discussion of "Is College Worth it?" ends in violence! No surprise!

Um… why shouldn’t we be surprised? I’m shocked when anything turns to violence let alone something as dumb as the value of education on a middle school soccer field.

No surprise given the high level of passion that similar questions can evoke here on CC. It was a joke.

Truth be told I immediately took the title as it was intended, a bit of a comment on how exaggerated things can get too often, here and elsewhere. Ugly incident obviously, but let’s face it there is sometimes some pretty serious vitriol on here. Goodness knows we mods have to edit out and warn people about it enough. This is a site about higher education. The device used by the OP is not an uncommon one in the world of criticism. I say let’s leave some room for literary allusions to social issues, including subtle commentary about how people act over topics that shouldn’t evoke such hateful passions.
