Discussion Sessions?

I got a class today from Mr. Cronin (International Politcs), but it says that I have to sign up for a discussion session. However, these discussion sessions are scheduled all through the week. I was thinking about having a session on thursday night or friday since it is at the end of the week? Does it even matter when disc. sessions are held? Or is there a certain time that they shoudl be held?

In humanities classes, discussion sessions are a generally worthless and a pain in the butt. In large lecture courses, they'll have maybe 5-6 TAs who each lead an hour-long discussion session each week. They're generally boring and worthless, but the TA leaving your discussion is generally the person who is responsible for grading your papers. So, if that's the case, you've got to show up most of the tme for fear of not getting on the TA's bad side.

Don't take anything on a thursday night or a friday unless you have to. That's the weekend.

There are also participation grades in most classes with paying attention to...which in large lectures like Int'l Politics can only be measured in sections.

As for timing: don't worry about it. The TAs will adjust the material of the section based on where in the week it is in relation to lecture. Do your best to find out which TAs are teaching (and CULPA them) and in what locations; any Poli Sci sections in particular that require use of the atrocious International Affairs Building elevator system are to be strenuously avoided. I once avoided a section for an entire semester because it was located in Schermerhorn Extension, which is a nightmare to navigate, let alone motivate myself to get to/through...it wound up having an adverse impact on my grade. So make these things as convenient as possible for you, lest you be tempted to skip too often. Many an otherwise decent grade has been ruined by poor section attendance.

So I'm not the only one that's been stuck in an IAB elevator?
