Dispeling Common Application Myths

Oftentimes on CC, one poster or another may subscribe to an incorrect but prevalent idea regarding college admissions. I think it would be helpful to have a thread on which posters could identify common but unchallenged assumptions and have some of our more senior members identify them. This could be beneficial to all posters.

Or just answer the question I have! (this is basically my excuse to make a thread about it):

Does it really matter if more than one person applies from your school, particularly if the others are better fits and are accepted? Especially at relatively low-performing public schools that send few to ivies. I notice that colleges often publish statistics about how many different high schools their students hail from; is that a fun fact or a valued stat?

shameless bump!

see above!

I don’t think it really matters. The applications all get sent to separate people so I don’t even know if they really know how many people from one school sent applications.
