The people on CC

Are the people on CC all typical common students??

Because everytime i look at colleges on the Colleges forum..i see everyone at every school i am considering with WAY higher stats than me

or

Are most of the people here on CC the TOP students in their schools/classes and no one with lower stats really go on forums like these?

I feel like my stats arent good enough compares to all theses valedictorians!!!!!

The average CCer is what you will see as an average applicant for a top 20 school.

The average CCer is what you will see as an average applicant for a top 20 school.

That's a pretty good description.

But may be pushing it.

A more accurate description would be that the average cc'er is obsessive over getting into college and misrepresents the norm. There has to be someone who fills the role of the bottom half of an incoming class.

I feel that people who aren't in some way obsessive over college won't bother to contribute much to CC. I try not to obsess too much over college. In fact, in a lot of my posts I try to alleviate members's anxiety and obsession. I try to say Calm down and base my advice on that.

The average CCer is by no means average in any way.

Not everybody on CC has amazing stats, and there are in fact people aiming for non top-20 ranked schools (I'd say up to top 100 or more).
Johnson was accurate in saying that the average CCer is obsessed with getting into college, heh.

The average CCer is what you would find in the top 1% of graduating classes.

Some of the parents who post on the Parent Forum have kids who are not in top-20 and do not aspire to be. They can be a good source of information for a student who may need some non-top 20 suggestions. Don't send them a run of the mill chances thread, though.

Not true at all. I'd say the typical ccer is in the top 10%. If they're not, they claim the reasoning is because they "go to an ultracompetitive school."

But still, very obsessive. (Myself included in that...)

The average CCer is somebody who is so obsessed over college that they'd actually spend time on a college forum!

Being the top of a terrible school should be virtually meaningless, but sadly class rank is an obsession of top schools. In reality, the top 20% of the best 5% of schools in this country is likely far superior if not at least matched with the valedictorians from the rest.

Not everybody on CC has amazing stats, and there are in fact people aiming for non top-20 ranked schools (I'd say up to top 100 or more).

Note we said AVERAGE...

Yes, and you'd be surprised that there are a lot more "non-top-20ers" than you'd think.

Haven't seen a lot

Give it some time, you guys have been here what... 1 month, 2 months? There are a lot more of them than you think.
During college admission season (now), all the people with ridiculously high stats come out in force.

heheh, just had a mental image of droves of nerds and preppies emerging from dark underground caves to take over CC.

the average CCer is more educated about the college admissions process than the average teenager.

I am the average CCer.

The average CC'er is eons ahead of the typical college applicant pool. CC serves probally the top 5% of the College Applicant population. Remember - most students in the united states get below 1500/2400 on their SATs, yet that is a rare occurence on CC, so that says something already. The fact that almost ALL CC'ers aim for a top 100 college says something too, which says they are aiming for the top 100 out of over 4000 US colleges....so if you look at it that way, its top 2.5%. (If anyone on CC is actually here to try to get into a college out of the top 100 then he/she is a outlier and not counted as valid)

CC is by no means average in any respect. I'll be very interested to find someone with a 400 on a SAT section or SAT II here.
