Distressed Over Financial Aid

I just got the acceptance...webpage(?) to Wharton early decision and was pretty ecstatic until I looked at the financial aid package, which was a Direct Loan for 5,500 dollars. No grants or anything else, which was the biggest slap in the face since I was told many times at various presentations that Penn started an initiative to give out loan free packages since 2008. I understand the economy is tight, but my family lives off of disability and my father's pension so I have no idea how I'm going to pay this off.

I guess my question is, how successful are people in the financial appeals process? Because there's no way I can pay the 122, 000 dollars this is going to cost after loan interest (I'm estimating FAFSA contribution).

Maybe there was mistake in your forms. Go back and double check or talk with your school counselor.

Call Penn and explain your situation and ask if they can reassess your need. Most people see increases in their packages. Also, if you were accepted to another institution which gave you more fin aid tell Penn and ask if they can match it.
