Well....it must be obvious by now that I am an Indian student (from New Jersey aka. Jersey Shore) and I was wondering how diverse is the campus in terms of #'s of Indian Americans. I visited 5 months ago and I saw some but mostly white and East Asian (nothing wrong with that) but how is it? Coming from north Jersey, I am pretty much surrounded by Indians and people of every race you could imagine and there is no distinction among anyone. I am a bit worried going from the East Coast to the Midwest, a place I don't know too much about except from movies about hicks.

Haha don’t you worry my good friend. Indians come straight from India to study here, you’ll be fine. If it helps I’m indian too :)

yeah there are a ****ton of indians here, don’t worry. uiuc is a pretty diverse place with people from all nationalities. you won’t find as many indians as edison per se, but there is a healthy indian population here.

If you’re looking for that, you should do ISA! I don’t know much about it because I too am an incoming freshman but I believe they coordinate India Night and such events.

You’ll be fine.

I’ll take this as a joke.

If you want to get to know a lot of Indians, I’d encourage you to join ISA (the Indian Student Association). I am Indian and chose not to join because I do not really want to go out of my way to associate myself with anyone just because of race, but I know and am friends with plenty of Indian students both in and out of ISA.
