Diversity in MT Schools

From your guys's lips to a producer's ear! I would love to see Mulan staged as a musical, because the story is near and dear to my (non-MT ballerina) D's heart. (She is Asian.) Plus, it's just a great story.

We also have discussed this possiblity MANY times in our household! Daughter would LOVE to be the first Mulan on the musical stage. I actually heard a rumor that there ARE thoughts to make Mulan into a musical--we're hoping! Korean daughter waiting impatiently here!

nydancemom, your D would be an AMAZING Mulan! I will be first in line for tickets (behind you, of course!) :)

Did y'all know there is an MTI Mulan Jr. version with Stephen Schwartz (among others) credits?

Auditions are soon!!...im so excited, but so nervous that afer these auditions im not going to get accepted anywhere..im hoping and praying for the best though, and im extremly excited about my CCM audition...thats my number 1 school...and i hate that it is, cause there is sucha high chance that i wont get help...but i cant help it, i love that school :-)...que sera sera

I have been talking to a girl (african-american) who used ot be on CC who is now at CCM, and ive been asking her questions about the school, and i asked her why they arent alot of black students...she said, its because they said they dont get alot of interest...but then i asked her if there were any black students at her audition, and she said yes, a black girl....but she said she was horrible and that she said 'Your Daddy's son' and butchered it...

but i wonder why they dont get alot of interest...

Kaylagurl-
I can't answer why more AA don't apply/audition for CCM, but I do know that at the last two adution dates in the fives minutes that I walked through the building, each time there was one AA male waiting outside one of the audition rooms. So maybe this year's group will have more.

Break a leg in your auditions and I hope that those of us in Cincinnati will see you here next year.

thank you :-)...and yea i know about the black AA males...they are actually quite a few that go to CCM(well def. more AA males than females)...it is more the females that im wondering about...but thank you so much :-)

Hey you guys..congrats on all your results..thats amazing!!! I was wondering, for those of you that have doen CCM auditions...when you did them, or when you where there at the audition did you see any African-American girls? I was jst wondering because, I talk to a girl from there (AA girl)she is sucha sweet girl and i asked her why you didnt see many black girls in the school, and she said that the school said that they didnt get alot of interest, and then i asked her if there were any black girls at her audition, and she said one, but she sounded horrible and butchered 'your daddy's son'...so iw as just wodnering if anybody had black girls at their audition...cause it seems weird that not many black girls would have interest in CCM...and i already know that there are not many black girls wanting to do MT...sod oes anybody know???...lol..i always hate the bring up 'color' things...sorry, but im really curious as to why...

Kays

I personally can't imagine that the number of African American girls interested in BFA programs is going to be that different at CCM's auditions than at some other BFA programs of that caliber. If there are not many, then there aren't. But I don't know that CCM would be so different that way in terms of who auditions (not speaking of who they accept now). I also "know" the girl you are speaking about...she used to post here and we met her at auditions at UMich and my D's close pal goes to school with her. Perhaps she is just saying that not a lot of African American girls are auditioning at CCM but not meaning that CCM is so different but that there are not a lot of African American girls on the BFA audition circuit in general or the BFA circuit in the Northeast. I don't think it was so specific to CCM. I mean the same kids applying to CCM are applying to these other BFA programs in that league generally speaking. I didn't see that many African Americans either and we attended 8 on campus auditions. However, there ARE African American girls IN the programs.

yea i know...i wasnt really saying bad things about CCM, like alot of black girls dont like to go there...no at all...CCM is my top choice..but i was wondering in general if alot of black girls actually audition for them...i would love to be a part of the school...so i was really just curious...but thanks :-)

Kayla, no worries. I didn't think you were saying anything bad about CCM. What I am saying is that I don't believe there is any difference in the number of African American females that audition at CCM compared to those who audition for any of the other top BFA in MT programs.

So far at all my auditions, I have been the only Asian male..

Hey Kayla! It's Grant...miss you hon, I love it how you're on this site too. I'm one African-American you'll see at Unifieds in Chicago, and I'm sure you won't mind that I'm male :-). I have to call you...I have so much to update you on, answer when I call girl! <3

I have just moved some posts relating to diversity that were posted in the past day on the Acceptance thread to this thread.
