diversity in sororities?

Ok...so I finished my 1st semester. Got good grades but now I'm trying to expand my social interests. Me and my friend are both minorities and we were wondering how diverse is the sorority system at Cal. We are both part African-American but we're not interested in the African-American sororities. What is spring rush like and do the sorority sisters discriminate towards african-americans during the rush process? Would just like to know. Thanks.

I'm not in a sorority but from casual observation I'd say they're pretty nondiverse in terms of race. But it's pretty safe to assume you won't encounter any open discrimination during rush, maybe after that, but I doubt it. If you do, you may want to report it as a hate crime.

Im in a fraternity (a prominent one too) and i am a minority. There definetly isnt any overt form of racism or discrimination in sorority rush. However, there is one VERY prevalent form of discrimination, appearances. Some sororities are known for having pretty girls and they want to maintain that reputation. However, there are others sororities that have lower standards in regards to the looks of their members

My D is in a sorority and there are girls from several races and every seems to be all mixed together, I have noticed people of many races in photos she has emailed me of events and activities she attends.

My girlfriend is in a sorority and there's no Afro American girls among the elites, and very few to none among the rest of the sororities. I do agree with dobby and GoldenBear10 though the sororities about no overt discrimination. I don't think you will find any sorority committing a "hate crime" though, they just don't give bids to girls they don't want.
