…Oberlin…:)

My D was invited, but she couldn’t attend due to a sked conflict. She did not apply and was ultimately waitlisted when she applied for regular admission (no ED, another boost to your app if you want to go to Amherst!) My D definitely regretted not attending DIVOH. (Luckily she was accepted to Princeton, but Amherst was definitely one of her top choices.)

If you love Amherst and you are a minority, apply to and attend DIVOH if you can.

BTW, I think Amherst means “minority” in many ways. It can mean your race or where you’re from or something else. Eg., you could be from an underrepresented area like Alaska.

Exactly, minority isn’t just for race. There are many ways of being a minority.

When is the deadline?

August 13th

In 200 words or less, please explain some of your reasons for wanting to visit Amherst College as part of the Diversity Open House Weekend…

I’m very stuck…

There’s another thread for you idiotqueen92 ----> “DivOH Admissions Essay”

divoh is definitely a huge boost for those who put amherst at the top of their college list. i think it was more around ~180 chosen out of a pool of almost 1000 applicants, so it is very hard to get into. when i went to the september divoh, it was very diverse (even though there were about 60% african americans) but all races were definitely present. also, i was one of the few asians in the entire program (so in my opinion, it was definitely harder for asians to get accepted into divoh). it was a very engaging experience all around. but for me, i moved amherst more down my list, for i experienced the super small campus and the liberal arts vibe. but some of my friends there had amherst jump from the bottom of their list to their #1. so you never know.

Thanks elbeeen :)

hey guys are you supposed to get any sort of mail confirming that your application has been received? I faxed mine over a few weeks ago and am afraid that they didnt get it or something!

I sent mine in today. I was wondering though, did we have to submit copies of our standardized test results? Because I believe the application just said for us to self-report our ACT/SAT scores. Now, I’m second-doubting myself and it does not feel good.

faith17 - i sent my application about a week and a half ago, but i haven’t received any sort of confirmation either. although i live on the west coast and sent it via snail mail, i think they should have gotten it by now. hopefully this gives you some support. or you can always call them.

Daughter faxed hers in & has not heard anything either. Maybe we will call next week.

This is why we will do online apps in the fall! So we can track it.

It is way to early to hear about DIVOH invites. If I remember correctly, D applied the last day available in August. She received her invite and travel itennerary 2 weeks before the September DIVOH.

Can anybody answer my question? Did we have to send copies of our SAT/ACT too or just the transcript?

What did your application say?

I’m trying to remember, but I don’t think the application required it. However, I just want to make sure because I’m second-doubting myself.

She got an email from Harvey Mudd today saying the application had been received. That is a relief.

what does harvey mudd have to do with amherst?

hahahahahah ok, that comment above was hilarious!!
I’m applying as well, good luck to everyone!
