Diversity

What would you all say about the diversity - different religions, ethnicities, races, etc. - at Brandeis? How do people of different groups interact with one another? I’m Haitian-American and a Seventh-Day Adventist (we’re normal people  ). Very curious.

Thanks.

Brandeis is a weird place when it comes to diversity. Jews are in the majority, where they would be in the minority anywhere else. Opinions seem to vary as to how accepting and comfortable the school is for other minorities. There's less "clumping" of minorities than there was at my extremely diverse Chicago high school.

Brandeis runs a diversity leadership program for selected entering freshmen called Mosaic. The aim is to expose a smattering of kids of different ethnic and other backgrounds to topics aout each other, then follow up with some sessions during the year, with the ultimate objective of establishing a core leadership group in each class that is accustomed to and supports working with others of diverse backgrounds. As far as I know, students of different backgrounds get together pretty well.

How well that program works in practice, someone else is better qualified to say. However, the current director is a black woman who came out of it.
