I come from a very wealthy, white, and preppy community/high school and I really want to get away from that in college. Is conn as homogenous as it's rumored to be?

definitely not. they are making huge efforts to increase diversity, and many of the most popular events on campus are thru the asian students group, black students group, and latino/a students group. there is also a large international student presence.
recently, they started a whole interdisciplinary program focused on diversity/pluralism: http://aspen.conncoll.edu/camelweb/index.cfm?fuseaction=ccnews&id=1619

I would not neccessarily say "definitely not" - I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the campus through Connecticut's Explore Weekend for people from diverse backgrounds. But the campus is definitely, a predominantly white campus. That does not mean though that Connecticut doesn't make a concerted effort to increase the diversity of its campus, slowly but surely. And while I was there, there were numerous multicultural events that happened. But still - largely a white school. A lot of minorities who end up applying to Connecticut also apply to other similar schools, but may end up going to those other schools so the yield - despite many of Connecticut's recruitment efforts can be low. There is definitely still room for improvement in the diversity department, but Connecticut makes minorities feel welcome!
