Diverstiy??

IS Colgate diverse enough or is it just another white school? i want to go somewhere that is diverse because that means the schools itself is very open..

You need to go to a book store and read the Colgate section of the Students’ Guide to Colleges. It is written by students who go to the schools. Short of other responses or going to visitation days, that is all I can add. :)

thanks anyone else???

TBH, this has been asked before, so you might not get a lot of answers.

Here’s the most recent thread I can find. I’m sure there’s more further back:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/colgate-university/637529-current-colgate-students-diversity.html

if you are looking for diversity, Colgate is definitely the place to find it. That said, not 100% of the students here are rich white kids… only maybe like 80-90%…

90% white??? and u called that diversity???

Colgate has a large percentage of white students. It also has many wealthy students.

However, my S, white but not very wealthy, loved Colgate. So did my Mexican niece. So did her Asian roommate from Hawaii. My S’ s frat has Asian, African American, Hispanic, and gay brothers.

Colgate may not be the most diverse school, but it is improving and it is extremely tolerant and open.

the 10% is not at all true. they were (presumably) being sarcastic, or maybe bitter.

[Colgate: Class of 2012 Profile](http://colgate.edu/DesktopDefault1.aspx?tabid=555)

22.8% of the class of 2012 is multicultural, and 5% are international. there are students from all 50 states and around 1/3 students are on financial aid with an average package of around $35,000. so nz12 is… wrong. yes it is not as diverse as the overall population, but there is racial/ethnic, geographical and economic diversity that may not be apparent at first glance.

Not very many schools have less than 90%… especially privates that tend to draw wealthy applicants. What I think is more important is look at the resources available dealing with students of different background and just how tolerant the student body is of people who aren’t white and wealthy.

Few people at Colgate really even care about showing off their money… it’s a taboo by many students.

i dont mind if they re wealthy and nice… but i heard nice people change to fit into the preppy kind…
