Divorced parents and fafsa and eop help

The situation is that my parents are divorced and I live with my mom mostly, visiting my dad during the weekends. My mom is unemployed and the only income she gets is from child support from my dad. I dont think food stamps or section 8 count as income.

I got a call from EOP saying I need to submit 1040 income tax returns as soon as possible, so thats one problem.
Also, I was going to apply for a PIN to then apply for FAFSA, but I need my custodial parent (mom) to make one also and I am very confused now.

Does income tax apply to my mom based on her conditions? If I were in custody of my dad, this would be a lot easier as he works and has a house and all that. I dont know what to do. I've searched and found no answers. If income tax doesnt apply to my mom, what am I supposed to do? Fill out all the information with my dad's information even though he isnt my custodial parent or what?

You need to fill out the FAFSA with your mom’s info, not your dad’s. Depending on the college, that would be very much to your advantage anyway (lower income = higher aid). If she does not file tax returns because of very low income, you can’t provide them. You still need to get a pin for both of you, because both of you need to sign off (online) on the FAFSA when it is done and enter that PIN.

I don’t know much about EOP (I think this means you are in California, maybe someone with more knowledge of that can post). But do NOT put your dad’s info in unless you are required to provide info for both parents.

Thanks for the response intparent. Can I use the same email for both our PINs?

And yes I am in California. I hope somebody can clear up that EOP issue for me.

Good question about the PINs! I had my PIN sent to one of my addresses, and Happykid’s sent to the other one so it would be easy to find. Her own inbox is always too full.

I printed out the sheets with the PINs, and stapled them into the file folder where I keep the FAFSA info from one year to the next.

I might have to create a separate email address for my mom then.

If I could get an answer to my EOP issue before Sunday, that would be great. Thanks.
