djs

im thinking about djing. i havent been djin for a whole but im owndering if i should get back into it. i have a whole lotta uderround raps and trance for the etards. but for thoes of you that dj and go to college, do people pay you? if so how much and what are the upsides and downsides.

If you DJ independently, it's difficult to get paid. But if you are part of some club/group (like the campus radio or something) then it's more possible that you are paid decently. Over at my univ, we have the IWAVE Campus Radio, which also has a special IWAVE Party Service thing where we provide audio equipment etc. for parties on campus. Students pay for it, and as an option they can get a DJ for a little more. Usually it's 50 euro for one night, DJ gets like 20, which is VERY low, but then I'm at a tiny university.

Upsides are that you are loving what you're doing, getting free access to parties and get to rock the crowd out, lots of free booze also usually. Downside is that sometimes it can be tiring, you might end up playing the same music over and over every night, and sometimes you just get a bastard crowd that insists that you play the backstreet boys.

Another thing you can do is mix live music instead of playing a set.. (those DJs are not DJs strictly, but "Selektors"). That tends to have more of an impact on the chicks.

i would recommend...it's a nice hobby to have + u get all the parties and stuff

if ur a hip-hop/top 40 dj, u should be able to spin pretty often at parties

but if ur a trance/house/progressive dj, then ur chances are kinda bad, esp in surburban colleges...since ppl don't accept that music, which kinda sux b/c EDM is really great music
