I am looking at UNC from out of state, (from illinois) and so obviously going home on the weekends would not be an option. I know at some schools where much of the student population is local alot of kids go home. Does this happen at UNC? Since the Raleigh-Durham area is right there it seems like a lot of kids would be close to home. I just don't want to be at one of those schools where the school is a ghost town on weekends.

Thanks for your help!

UNC is not a suitcase college and there are lots of things to do. For example, D’s 1st semester, she came home at Fall Break & Thanksgiving. We live about 3 hours away. Her suitemates were about 45 minutes away and though they went home more often, it was not excessive.

No, that doesn’t happen a lot. Most UNC students are from the Charlotte area, which is a few hours away. A lot of them also don’t have cars, and you can’t get out of Chapel Hill without a car.

Nope, it doesn’t happen.

Well, I’m from Canada, so I will just be going back for Christmas!

I am from Durham, so my home is but 15 minutes away from campus. Like what someone said earlier there really isn’t much to do at Chapel Hill besides Franklin so everyone goes to Raleigh/Durham for any sort of nearby fun. But I choose to go back home mostly to have my own room again and my own…well a lot of things.
