<p>There are some insider books such as "Admission Confidential" by Toor and "The Gatekeepers" by Steinberg. Adcoms generally fall in one of two categories. Recent graduates of the college who are working at being adcoms until they move onto something else. Older people who drifted into being adcoms from all fields of life. Generally these people may switch back and forth between being adcoms and GC's. It is a year long job. When not reviewing apps, they are doing other things such as recruiting. It is a relatively low paying job.</p>
