Do admissions counselors know your high school?

I've been wondering if the counselors at colleges know what kind of school, in terms of people and academics, I attend when I apply? Like would the counselor know who the principal is or how difficult a certain AP course is.

Maybe. If people have attended the college in question from your school, the odds are higher that they know about your school. Also, if they come to your school specifically to talk to and recruit students, they undoubtedly know the school. And finally, just ask your GC what their relationship is with the college in question. They’ll undoubtedly tell you.

Colleges are a lot more aware of high schools than you would think, especially if it’s a top one. You have to be going to a pretty obscure high school where no one has ever applied to the specific college for them to have no clue, and even then, they probably still have a pretty good idea. And it’s also your GCs job to inform them of what your HS is like as part of your application.
