Banal question: do college admissions offices ever contact the high school guidance office directly or will they contact the student to provide clarification on app information?

Thanks

Yes they do contact the high school guidance office directly

It is a very common practice. Some high schools have very good relation with college adcoms, they would have a conference call to review each applicant before a decision is made. It usually happens more during RD.

My S applied and was accepted ED. He found out after the fact from his guidance counselor that the school had called her for his in-progress grades. Good thing he was doing well!

Yeah they call for grades and sometimes to talk about the student directly, like if the admission officer has a question about the student or needs to clear something up on the application

Yep in most cases they are the “medium” between them and you. They contact to get the official most resent data.
