recently i listened to a rep from UCI, who was talking about how UCI "blanks" or doesn't look at the major choice for the applicant unless it has to do with the school of engineering....i found that very surprising considering for the past few months my GC has been telling me something different (that the major you apply under affects your admissions chances)

is there any truth to what the rep said? if so, does this hold true for just UCI or all other UC's?

Both are true to a certain extent. Within the College of Letters and Science, your indicated major doesn't matter. Within the School of Engineering, your major does matter, as does the very fact that your major is in the School of Engineering itself. This is the case with UCB and UCLA admissions, and likely with UCI admissions as well.

thanks....so in other words a person applying under biology would have the same chances of admission as a person applying under undecided/undeclared
