Do any schools offer merit aid for transfers?

I was a NMF in high school, and I know some schools (Alabama, ASU, etc.) offer a full ride for that. I ended up going to an Ivy, and my parents are currently footing the bill. I was very unhappy at the school, so I applied to other elite schools as a transfer, and was accepted at another Ivy.

I’m rethinking my whole situation, and I think my best bet is just to go to a state school on a big scholarship so my parents can’t use the threat of refusing to pay my college tuition as a way to control me. I’m considering taking a gap year and applying to any schools that offer merit aid for transfers. If it helps, I had a high GPA and SAT score in high school but a relatively weak GPA in college. Is there any school that would take me as a junior transfer and give me lots of money?

Transfers don’t generally get much aid. Full ride merit awards are for freshmen. Some schools meet need, but your parents income and assets will impact how much you get. You’ll need them to complete financial aid paperwork until you’re 24 (or married, etc,), so even if they’re not writing the checks you’ll need their cooperation.

How are they controlling you? Will it be better when you’re back on campus in person?
