I know that what merit aid schools are willing to give usually goes to freshman, but are there any schools in particular that have good scholarships/aid for transfer students? How important (if I'm a sophomore) would freshman year college grades be compared to my high school grades (if they even look at those at all)?

Thanks very much!

Very few colleges offer merit aid for transfers. This was discussed in a recent thread that you can find via the search function.

Many schools do offer merit aid for transfer students. However it is generally *much *less generous than that offered to freshmen. For instance at my daughter’s school the highest merit based scholarship is a full tuition waiver plus a cash scholarship that covers a most of the student’s expenses (books, room and board etc). Their highest transfer scholarship is a partial tuition waiver that nowhere near pays for tuition and does not cover any other expenses. It is perhaps 1/6 the size of the freshman scholarship.

At my daughter’s school merit based scholarships for transfer are based on academic record in college and high school records are not taken into account.

You would have to check with the schools you are interested in to see what merit aid they offer transfer students. But you will probably find it is much less generous that what is offered to freshmen.
