I'm hoping to transfer next fall as IEOR major. Just in case I get in, I was wondering if you guys can comment on what type of social life I should expect. I hear that the engineering classes are super hard and don't give you time for much. Do you think people exaggerate a little too much? Just in case it helps, I'm transferring from a community college and finished all the math, physics, chem, English, and some GE's with a 3.7 GPA. Btw, I'm not planning on partying every day, I'm just wondering if I'll have time to do other stuff...well...ok maybe a party once in a while :-)

It really depends on your work ethics, course load and how well you can handle the material. Some people can breeze through their classes while others struggle. The former gets to to party and the latter has to study more to keep up.

That being said, one of the most important skills you must have to succeed here is time management. Basically, the University, Bay area, and the students are there to distract you. You must be focused and pick one or two ECs you are interested in and stick to them. You can easily get overwhelmed if you want to do everything. For you first semester take the minimum course load and do not join any organizations until you are comfortable that you can take on more responsibilities.
