Do brown character shoes exist?

First time poster, long time lurker. A little background on me, I am currently finishing up an associate’s degree in theater with a certificate in musical theatre. I’m already applied and auditioned up for all of my schools in 2016. And for all intents and purposes, I’m basically Danielle Brooks.

In every show I’ve ever been, I’ve always worn black shoes. Do they even make character shoes in brown (not ballroom shoes)? ( I understand that not everybody is “tan” or “nude”, but I’ve always felt like I stood out wearing brown tights and black shoes. I even checked LaDuca’s page and all I saw were “nude”)

It’s just something I’m inherently interested in (since everyone recommends having one nude and one black colored shoe).

TL;DR: Do brown (like chocolate milk) character shoes exist?

Did you try looking at ballroom shoes?

Laduca will custom paint shoes, and a few of my students and friends have done that to get shoes closer to their skin tone.

I do not know for certain, but Capito and Bloch may do this too.

I also know people who have purchased tan character shoe, and had them custom painted.

Yes, but they have never had the durability to keep up with the cost.

I would look into the custom dying. My oldest D was a competitive figure skater - and had a good friend with very dark brown skin who had all her tights custom dyed. She always looked fantastic - If they can custom dye tights, certainly they should be able to custom dye shoes! And LaDuca creates shoes in all sorts of colors and shades for shows - so I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to do something for you. (Hopefully it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!)

I know that one of my friends was able to get a brown pair of LaDuca character shoes (that they must have custom painted for someone who did not end up purchasing them or something) at the LaDuca summer sale.

It is worth calling LaDuca, Bloch, and Capizio to see what they say the costs are for custom color character shoes.

Sounds like a new business venture. Misty, Michaela are you listening?
