Do Bs hurt my admission chances?

I’m currently a junior in high school and so far I’ve taken 6 APs (2 last year, 4 this year). Sophomore year wasn’t so great for me; I received 3 B’s (1 in AP Human Geo) in 1st semester and in 2nd semester, a B and a B- in Chem and Precalc respectively. Other than that, I’ve maintained all As.

How much will these Bs drag down my chances? Thanks!

You should still have an unweighted GPA of over 3.9, so I wouldn’t think that it would have any effect at all, unless you want to go into engineering or physics (because of the pre-calc grade), though if you’re getting an A in AP Calc BC (or AB), that pre-calc grade is also unimportant.

Thanks! I’m taking AP Calc AB and doing very well in it, so that’s good to know.

Also something to consider–does your school send semester grades for each year to colleges? Personally, my school sends only the final letter grade, so doing well in the 2nd semester could be to your great advantage.

Bs a rent a huge deal unless you’re looking at an UW <3.7 and then it’s a matter of how good your ECs are. Brown reps have said in a few interviews that they would rather see a student who knows how to fail a little than one who never has.

They will drag down your chances slightly, other things being equal. But an upward grade trend looks quite attractive as well, as long as you can keep it up.
