To Those Accepted into Brown:

This may seem like a trivial question, but how many "B"s are considered OK when applying to colleges such as Brown? How many did you guys (those of you accepted to Brown) have in high school? What is a good UW GPA? (Assume that SAT is 2200+, ACT is 34+, and ECs/everything else are solid.)

From what I"ve gathered, it toooootally depends on what HS you go to. At mine, if you get one B, you're classrank drops significantly because grade inflation is rampant. At the private high school down the road, the valedictorian has a 3.5 or something. It's all relative, basically. 4.0 is a good unweighted GPA, generally speaking, and 1000000000+ is a good weighted GPA, because really, if you haven't taken ALL of the AP courses, starting in sixth grade, no college will accept you! :) I jest, I jest. good luck though!

They do holistic reviews on their applicants so if you're solid everywhere else, don't sweat the GPA/rank too much.

That's what I've been telling myself to do anyway -___-

Brown is looking for students who excel academically. So the more As the better. I'll second what alfredeneuman said, that grading policies/standards at high schools vary, so it all depends on your high school. It also depends on what else you bring to the table -- if you have a skill or talent that Brown is looking for. And it also matters what classes you get Bs in. A future math major should be getting As in math, and a B in English could be overlooked.

Well, it's too late to do anything about those B's now, so I wouldn't sweat it. You sound like a competitive applicant -- just write your essay, and good luck.
