Do colleges accept ACT scores from sophomore year?

Son #2 attained a score that ordinarily would obviate the need to retake the test, but he's only a HS sophomore. Will he need to take the test again next year anyway? I was under the impression (from where I don't know) that at least some colleges don't accept standardized test scores obtained before junior year. Am I wrong?

Also, do colleges begin sending information to students that early? We named four schools to send scores to because the first four were free, but they weren't selected with much forethought as we assumed this would just be a "practice" sitting. (Son isn't very interested in the process yet, for obvious reasons.)

Thanks in advance for any information about this.

My son took the ACT in June of 10th grade and we were told that's fine. Took some SAT IIs then too. Really must say that having some good scores under his belt made this year (11th grade) much less stressful. Since all colleges are looking at 10th grade GPAs, I can't imagine that a good test score would be discounted.

They'll accept any exams taken during high school. It's complete bull if colleges don't accept AP scores before junior year, and it applies similarly to ACT and SAT.

The only sophomore score that won't count is the PSAT toward National Merit.

they do accept AP scores as early as freshmen year.
my sister received college credit for a 5 on the AP Bio as a freshwoman (lol).
