ACT Sophomore

I'm a sophomore in Massachusetts, which is a primarily SAT state, and my school doesn't offer PLAN. They offer ACT, but as far as pretests, they only do PSAT. Can I take the ACT sophomore year really just as practice and to gauge my success or are sophomores limited to PLAN? I really think I'd do better on the ACT than the SAT and I'd like to take an ACT style test as soon as possible.

So, first of all, is it possible to take ACT sophomore year? Secondly, if it is, what do I have to lose by taking it so early (besides the fee)?

Jack

Yeah, I took ACT sophomore year to see what it was like. If I were you, I wouldn't choose to send it to any colleges because more than likely, you will want to retake it. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. So basically you would recommend I try it out this year, but don't bother submitting it unless I somehow get a perfect score because my score will likely improve as I get older, yeah?

Also, what did you get sophomore year? And the years after that?

I got a 25 my sophomore year. Then, six months later (with like a week of prep), I raised it to a 31. I retook it again another six months later and got a 32...then again this September...hopefully it's higher. Oh, I did make the mistake of sending my first scores to colleges though...I feel really dumb about that, lol.

Yeah, I also made the mistake of sending my first score to colleges :(

DON'T DO IT! lol. Simply put, no matter how much you retake the test, don't submit to colleges. That way when you're done testing and find a score you're satisfied with, you can send JUST that score.

Sophomore year is really early, but if you want to... I took it October junior year and was pretty happy with my score, took it only once more with state testing, but I could have taken it 5 more times if I wanted.

Take it! I took the ACT my sophmore year and got a 27. I ended up getting a 33 by the end of my junior year. Taking it early means that next year when most of your friends are taking it for the first time, you'll already be familiar with the test. Also, taking it early could mean that you won't have to bother with it during your senior year.

If there is a Princeton Review office in your town, you might find the chance to take a free practice ACT test. I suppose they are hoping you'll enroll in their test prep courses, but there is no obligation.

you are going to have a tough time in the end of the math section because it involves trig...however taking it now would give you a good idea of how the test works. if anything take it toward the end of the year rather than now

Don't put your high school on your registration because your scores will be sent to your high school. SOme schools make ACT/SAT scores part of your transcript and then your sophomore score could be sent to colleges with your transcript.

Hehe i took plan last year did horrible got like a 27 or 28. Only one wrong in math and english and 2 in scince but around 7-8 wrong in reading. PLAN is so much easier than the real thing. take the real thing.

PLAN is scored differently than ACT. The maximum is 32, not 36. Isn't 28 on the PLAN about 98 percentile?
