I have been doing swim for over 10 years but haven’t gotten any awards or attended any meets, same goes with piano. I was just wondering if colleges would want me to have awards instead of just attending practices and whatnot. Will this affect my chances of getting into a college as well?
Colleges accept plenty of “B” students. Colleges accept many people without athletic or music honors. It all depends.
The more selective a suite of colleges you target, the more you’ll have to be excellent and stand out. Awards can be part of this, but not exclusively. The answer is this WON’T affect you depending on the schools you’re targeting. If all you have is middle of the road achievements in ECs and solid academic performance, know that those chasing the few slots at the ultra-selective colleges will have both – and in droves and lacking superior achievement outside the classroom WILL affect your chances.
