I have a question: Do colleges actually look at individual grades? Or do they just look at GPA and the courses you took. For example, would they look through your sophomore year grades and see which class you got a B in?

I would think they do...but it may depend of the school and maybe even the individual...
Not sure though..

Some high schools do not calculate GPA and/or class rank. So, it would seem that it would depend on the HS. Also, some HS do not give grades, even. I think Ad Comms are pretty careful about reading the transcripts. However, if you are worried about a grade in sophomore year, I think you should stop worrying, because it is a whole picture that they want to see.

Yes, colleges tend to care about individual grades.

For instance, you can imagine that colleges would look differently at an applicant who wants to major in English and got a C in Algebra...versus an applicant who wants to major in Engineering and got that same C in Algebra.

In addition, colleges like to see GPA hold steady or improve. A weak grade during Freshman year will generally not have the same impact as a weak grade during Junior year.

Best of luck!

Of course they do. Why do you think we try so hard to maintain our grades, ECs, and service hours?
