Do colleges consider the academic difficulty of your school?

I’m just wondering if colleges differentiate between schools where it is easy to get straight A’s vs. schools where it is more difficult when reviewing your transcripts.

Yes they do.

Okay thanks.

They do but do not assume because you attend a competitive high school that you can slack off. I attend a competitive SF Bay Area school and looking at the scattergrams on naviance there is not a huge discernible difference. Keep in mind colleges also try to cap the amount of students they accept from a certain school. That being said going to a competitive school especially if a lot of AP/IB/Honors courses are provided then this should give you an advantage compared to less competitive schools.

You can check the common data set for each university, and I think they place some weight on it.
