Do scores have to be received by Jan 1 or just sent by Jan 1? And if they have to be received by Jan 1, is it too late if I send the scores today?

Neither. Your application + supplement + recs, should be submitted by Jan 1st, and so should your scores for most schools, but your scores don’t necessarily have to be sent or received by Jan 1st for most schools, though you should send them ASAP.
No, it’s not too late to send scores. If you do send them, don’t rush the scores.

You can still take the January SATs if you want and have CB send the results to the schools. So sending them after Jan 1 is not too late.

what about AP scores? i heard that you dont have to send them till after you’re accepted?

AP scores are self-reported, so for the most part, colleges won’t officially receive your scores unless you enroll and decide to send them.

but do colleges require ap scores to be sent as part of the application? thanks

^No. You get to choose if you want to send them or not.

is it recommended to send ap scores, or does it not really help you?

There was a link somewhere on CC by a Harvard admissions officer I believe that said that AP scores are most indicative of success… so I would send it, not officially, but on the common app. I know USC is okay with a faxed copy of the AP Scores.

It’s not officially recommended by any top college I know of, and it doesn’t really help you. That said, if you have a 3 or higher, I would send it.
