When do I have to send SAT/ACT scores by?

My application deadlines are in January. How early do I have to send my scores? What if the scores arrive after the deadline? What happens if I send my scores to a school but end up not applying there?

I have the same question. My college list is really long right now, hoping to narrow it down. But I want to hold off as long as possible before I have to send scores so I don’t end up sending scores to schools I’m not applying to.

Look at the web sites for the schools. They show when info has to be in.

In most cases, colleges need to have the scores by the deadlines. Send them as early as possible. If the deadlines are January 1st, you should send them very soon. It can take a couple of weeks for the scores to be sent, and then received and processed by the colleges.

I sent my scores to ten schools but only ended up applying to eight of those… However, I think the $11.25 is worth the risk if you’re very interested in a school and don’t want them to receive your scores after the deadline.

What @rhiannaps wrote is incorrect. Most schools allow for a Jan (and some even Feb) test scores to be considered. Just check the deadlines of each of your target schools.
