Do colleges keep incomplete applications?

I know questions like this get posted here a lot, but I was wondering if anyone knew what was typically the procedure for storing applications that aren’t completed?

I wrote an essay that I absolutely loved last year. Unfortunately, it wasn’t through Common App and my computer had to be completely restored, so for now it’s inaccessible to me. I learned that I would be unable to attend college for the fall relatively early in the season due to a family emergency and never sent my transcript or supplements to any schools. My understanding is that incomplete applications are trashed, as I called the offices of a few schools this year and asked if I would have to mark that I already applied when I got to sending applications in the fall. (The answer was no, for those interested.) Of all the schools I “applied” to, only one actually returned a decision with the incomplete application. Is there any chance that my essay ended up saved? Should I just save myself the trouble and write a new one?

Sorry for posting to the wrong sub board.
