Do colleges look at sat scores for one year transfers?

colleges like csulb, sdsd, ucsb, csuf, ucsd, cal poly slo, uci, ucr, cal poly pomona

No, UC’s do not consider your HS record or SAT/ACT test scores in their transfer evaluation. For the CSU’s, they will consider your HS course record but test scores if you are trying for a lower division transfer (not available for most CSU campuses)

UC’s and CSU’s do not usually accept 1 year transfers (rare exceptions).
They accept Junior level transfers with minimum 60 semester/90 quarter units so will you have the minimum credits completed by end of Spring 2019 along with all major and GE requirements?

my school counselor was able to transfer in a year and a half because he took summer classes

Do you have significant useful transferable credit completed while in high school?

Like I stated above, some of the Cal states will accept lower division transfers but they will look at your HS grades and you need to complete in College a written communication class and a mathematics class prior to applying. You also need to find a Cal state that accepts Lower Division transfers so you need to contact them directly. I can tell you that San Diego state, CSU Long Beach, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly SLO do not accept Lower Division transfers so you would need to complete the 60 semester/90 quarter units by spring prior to transfer.

**Here is the requirements for a Lower Division Transfer for the Cal states that accept these type of transfers:
To be admitted to the California State University as a lower-division transfer (LDT) student, you must:

-have completed “a-g” course requirements in high school;
-have graduated from high school (received a high school diploma or General Educational Development, or GED, certificate);

  • meet the Eligibility Index required of a first-time freshman (includes SAT/ACT scores)
    -have achieved an overall college GPA of at least 2.00 (This GPA is calculated using all your transfer units attempted. -In case of high-demand majors and campuses, a GPA of 2.00 may not be sufficient to be admitted);
    -be in good standing at the last college or university you attended. (In simple terms, “good standing” means you are eligible to re-enroll at your last college or university); and
    -have completed, with a grade of C- or better, a course in GE Section A2 in written communication and a course in GE section B4 in mathematics or quantitative reasoning.**

Your counselor probably had some AP or DE credit to help meet the credit minimums so they could transfer in a 1 1/2 years.

Occasionally the UCs accept sophomore transfers. You can go here to look:

While transfers do not need the SAT and the UC doesn’t ask for it, I know there are some instances when an SAT score can fulfill a requirement, at least in language. There was a transfer student up here who got the language fulfilled with his SAT score. I don’t know much about it but if that sounds like something similar to your situation reach out to the UC to check the rule. It’s mentioned here:

http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/transfer/advising/igetc/index.html

To transfer as a junior in one year you need a lot of AP scores. But people do successfully do it. They usually start with regular courses in summer so they have about 7 classroom courses by end of fall.

^^ I’m referring only to the UCs. Gumbymom knows about CSUs.

@Ohm888: Just for some backstory on the OP.

OP is currently starting their Senior year of HS with a 2.5 GPA, no SAT/ACT test scores posted and looking to major in Business.

OP has been given a list of non-impacted CSU’s that they could apply as an in-coming Freshman but CSU admissions are based on GPA and test scores.

@alexoval: Have you taken the SAT or ACT and if so, what are your scores?

Do you plan to take or have taken any AP/IB or DE courses so far that would help you get transfer credits towards your 1 year transfer goal?

If you do not get into your choice college as a Freshman, is your plan to go to a community college and transfer? Do you plan to take classes after HS graduation (summer) to meet the minimum goal of 60 semester/90 quarter units by Spring 2019?

As stated above, if you are a Lower division transfer below 60 semester units/90 quarter units for the CSU’s, they will look at your HS a-g courses and calculate your eligibility index (which requires an SAT or ACT scores) plus you need to fin a CSU that will accept you as a LDT into your choice major. All the CSU’s you listed only accept Junior level transfers.

My advice is based on your posting history, you have struggled in some HS courses and are retaking them. If you are unhappy with your college choices, your best bet is to do 2 years at a California community college and meeting the minimum 60 semester/90 quarter unit requirement for the CSU’s and UC’s. Your HS record including test scores will not be considered and basically wipe the slate clean and start over.

For the CSU’s, they offer the ADT Pathway (A degree transfer with a guarantee) for community college transfers: https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/transfer/pages/ccc-associate-degree-for-transfer.aspx

For the UC’s, they offer TAG (Transfer admission guarantee): http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/guarantee/index.html

Thx @gumbymom. I didn’t know the background.

@alexoval:

If your CSU GPA is 2.5, you would need an SAT score of 950 to qualify for the non-impacted CSU campuses for Business which are Bakersfield, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, Stanislaus and East Bay as a Freshman.

You should study for the October SAT and aim for at least a 950 or higher.

If you prefer the other CSU’s or UC’s, then going the transfer route is your best course of action and I would apply as a Junior level transfer so a minimum of 2 years at the community college level.

Oops, forgot about CSU San Bernardino as your best option if you make the minimum eligibility index plus according to your other post, it is your local CSU.

My niece attend CSUSB as a Business major and doing very well post graduation.

Best of luck.

I am currently taking Virtual Enterprise at my school which is going to give me college credits

Since you have a low HS GPA, you will need to prove yourself to the Cal States and UC’s if you plan to transfer so the longer you stay at a community college, the better position you will be in when you transfer. Remember to transfer, you need to take the major course requirements and the GE’s with a minimum 60 semester units.

I would still apply to the non-impacted CSU campuses that offer a Business major if you have an SAT/ACT score. If you do not get in as a Freshman applicant, then going the CC to UC/CSU transfer route would be your next step.

What classes are you taking at Virtual Enterprise and are they UC/CSU transferable?

I assumed your asking about one year meant you had a strong GPA and likely some AP. You are definitely putting the cart way ahead of the horse. Your GPA is not strong. Tellling yourself you’ll plow through in some accelerated manner is a recipe for a fatal outcome. There is no rush. Do the standard two years at a CCC and aim for a high GPA. There are no shortcuts in life. Realizing this is the trademark of a leader. What’s an extra year with good grades? Is shaving one year off worth the risk?
