Wouldn’t it be unfair if they looked at unweighted GPA because if you’re taking AP classes and not doing as well as someone in regular or honors classes, wouldn’t that put the AP students at a disadvantage?
In other words, if they do look at unweighted GPA, why do they do that?
Because different high school weigh differently. Unweighted is always out of 4.0 so colleges can compare using it.
From what I understand, they look at both. And I believe some recalculate GPA using their own guidelines. That is because high schools do not weight grades in a standardized way. Some only weight AP, some weight honor and AP, some don’t weight grades at all.
@PMoney1 unweighted is not always out of 4.0
Colleges look at unweighted primarily because of the different weighting schemes. However, they take into account your course rigor and your GPA in context of your school. A student with a 4.0 in all regular classes will not be regarded the same as a student with a 3.9 and almost all APs and honors classes.
@guineagirl96 I’m sorry, almost always out of 4.0
They look at both. A lot also recalculate based on honors, AP, and other factors.
They look at both regardless. I heard that they calculate the unweighted GPA themselves.
