do colleges look into your hours for a volunteer club at high school?

i've been in key club for two years so far: freshman and sophomore year.
i'm considering whether or not i should join next year, because so far i have 0 hours. yes, zero, sad. but if i join next year i'll volunteer more.

if i put onto my college application that i joined key club or some other type of volunteer club at school for three or four years, will they check how involved i was, how many hours i had and when i volunteered? thank you!

No, they don’t check with your high school. However, if you truly put a significant amount of time into Key Club (in junior/senior years), that would be apparent in your teacher recs and interviews. Thus, do not feel compelled to fabricate or exaggerate your hours. On the other hand, if you were truly involved in Key Club, only your impact on this EC would matter; the hours would speak for themselves.
