Do colleges really only accept you based on SAT/ACT scores??

I want to go to a 4 year somewhere in the LA area, but because of my SAT score my chances look slim?

Cal State (CSU’s) only use your CSU GPA and SAT/ACT scores to determine your Eligibility index. You are then ranked by each school based on this formula.

UC’s such as UCLA/UCI use UC/CSU GPA/test scores/HS course Rigor/essays and EC’s. For both CSU’s and UC’s you need to meet a-g course requirements to have your application reviewed along with a minimum UC GPA or CSU EI.
For privates, letters of recommendation will also be considered.

No 4 year university in the LA area that I am aware of will accept you just based on SAT scores.

@Gumbymom Ahhhh I see! thank you so much for the clarity!! I was very scared and upset for a moment, haha. Still, my performances in the past have always been quite average. Everyone in my high school makes the CSU/UC acceptances out to be as if you must be some sort of mastermind. With my average scores, this worries me.

If you post your stats, I could help you with a list of possible schools that could work for you. I have guided my 2 son’s (1 at UC Davis and other at SDSU) along with my niece (starting SLO) through the CSU/UC admission process in the last 3 years with good success. If you have any specific questions, do not hesitate to PM me (if you wish not to post any stats on CC).

Share your stats, budget and preferences (campus size, environment, weather, sports, etc) so we can help you find schools that will work for you.
