Do colleges SEE your essay?

<p>ACT says they make the optional essay available to colleges.</p>

<p>Does this mean that colleges actually read that terrible 30-minute essay you wrote? Will the schools I'm interested in (Stanford, Yale, UCLA, primarily) most likely look at it? </p>

<p>Can I hide it? :P</p>

<p>You wouldn't want to. It tests your ability of expressing yourself clearly. If you are decently understandable, then it's all good.</p>
